Good News from Great Places

Information for Public Relations Professionals and Freelance Writers

The goal of this magazine is to share good news about great places—communities served by SkyWest, the nation’s largest regional airline. We publish two distinct editions — Delta Connection and United Express. Each strives to inform our more than 3 million passengers per edit cycle about unique lifestyle, business and recreational opportunities in destinations served by regional airports.

Therefore, we focus on places other magazines do not cover – smaller communities in more out-of-the-way locations. All our stories are upbeat and positive.

Note to PR Professionals: We love to get press releases via email, especially when they tell us about businesses and/or individuals achieving great things or offering unique services in towns and small cities served by regional air service. We are also interested in unique recreational or travel opportunities or honors or accolades awarded to resorts, businesses or individuals in our service area. The key here is a strong link to the communities where regional air service plays a major role. If that link does not exist, please do not submit.

Our magazines include several departments that are ideal placement for this type of news. Here’s a brief synopsis of their contents.(Click on the links below to see a sample pdf of the section)

Please note that we only run items accompanied by high-quality images — 300 dpi or better when enlarged to 4 by 5 inches. Do not send images however, until they are requested. At that point they should be sent to the photo editor, NOT colleen@gopublicationsinc.com.

Every edition also includes a calendar of events. These brief items do not include images. To submit items for the calendar of events give us, the location, date, time, a brief description and contact information via email to: josh@gopublicationsinc.com

Note to Professional Writers: Each edition also includes between three and five feature stories about the places SkyWest Airlines serves. These are always assigned either to a staff member or a freelancer. When we use freelancers they are usually people who live and work in the places we are covering. We like the writers to possess an in-depth knowledge of and emotional attachment to the places they call home.

Please also note that we rarely entertain freelance submissions or ideas. Our edit calendar is set far in advance and is rarely modified.

The best way to get into this magazine is:

  1. Review the route map on this website
  2. Locate the community, or region where you live and work, or a place with which you are intimately familiar.
  3. All stories are assigned. (No spec’ pieces or queries please.) Staff members write most stories. However, when making freelance assignments, we do prefer to use writers living in the featured community. To be considered for such an assignment, email a brief resume and a very brief assortment of clips to: colleen@gopublicationsinc.com

The clips do not have to be published works. We like to see your work before an editor has had his or her way with it. Send them in a word document. Study our online features to get a feel for our “style.” We do use the Chicago Manual of Style. Note too, that all assignments are made via written contract.

Verbal discussions of possible assignments must never be construed as binding.

Payment: We do not pay for material based on promotional press releases submitted by PR professionals, businesses or individuals. For assigned freelance work, payment varies depending upon the intensity of the assignment.

Freelance writers will be paid in full within 30 days of publication. SkyWest Magazine will not be responsible for expenses such as long distance phone calls, mileage, photo developing, photocopying, postage or any other expenses unless agreed upon in a written and signed contract by the assigning editor.

Remember email is the best way to communicate with our editor: colleen@gopublicationsinc.com.

Unsolicited manuscripts will not be returned and snail-mail correspondence may not be acknowledged due to the quantity of submissions we receive. Thanks for understanding and thanks for your interest in SkyWest Magazine!
